Frequently Asked Questions

Course materials were designed for conservation and natural resource professionals, assuming the participant has little or no knowledge of the Conservation Standards. That said, those who have practical experience with the Conservation Standards but have never taken an introductory course (at least in the last couple of years) will also benefit greatly as they are guided through each step of the action planning process and are able to practice applying principles to a real case study.
First, we recommend that one or more of your team members take one of our Conservation Standards training courses to learn best practices, principles, and tools of effective plan development and implementation. Then, you will be in position to make improvements to your plan, even if it is not fully incorporated into the Conservation Standards framework. For example, perhaps you can improve your current plan by developing a vision statement that describes what success looks like to you. Or, perhaps you will decide to create a theory of change for a strategy that is being implemented to articulate your team’s inherent assumptions about how strategy implementation will lead to improved conservation outcomes.
We recommend ongoing coaching and training to help your team successfully navigate the complexities and uncertainties of plan implementation. Coaching is billed at an hourly rate and can include weekly or monthly coaching meetings, document review, advanced training sessions, or on-demand assistance. Send us a message and let’s talk!
