Conservation Standards Training
We offer three training pathways to learn the Conservation Standards, the premier framework for conservation planning.
- Self-Paced Course: Watch training videos and practice each step of the action planning process to a case study from Africa. Work at your own pace, and get quick responses to emailed questions from a NaturePlan coach. Ideal for those with no experience in conservation planning or who seek greater learning flexibility.
- Coach-Led Course: Work with a coach-led team to create the beginnings of an action plan for a real project using the Conservation Standards framework. Ideal for those with no experience with the Conservation Standards and those who are seeking a refresher course.
- Private Team Training: Schedule a customized virtual or on-site training for your team or organization. You may substitute your project in place of a case study. Ideal for teams who intend to create a strategic plan based on the Conservation Standards but need training first.
Courses primarily focus on Steps 1 and 2 (Assess, Plan) of the Conservation Standards project management cycle.

Conservation Plan Development & Implementation
A NaturePlan coach will work with your team to bring stakeholders together and develop a customized conservation action plan for your project. Meetings can be facilitated remotely, via in-person workshops, or through a remote/in-person hybrid process. Services and support include:
- Meeting facilitation and coach guidance.
- Climate-smart adaption of an existing plan.
- Strategic plan writing or revision (support or full-service).
- Templates for Conservation Standards-based action plans, including pre-populated, succinct descriptions of the planning process, methods, and a logical arrangement of planning elements such as strategies, goals, objectives, and theory of change.
- Templates and step-by-step instruction for seamless creation of monitoring and work plans.
- Miradishare training and support.
- Data tracking system creation.
- Agenda templates and facilitation of quarterly and annual meetings to review, reflect, and revise the plan.
Organizational Strategic Planning
The Org Compass is NaturePlan’s organizational strategic planning process, built specifically for conservation nonprofits. With the guidance of an expert facilitator, your leadership team will gain clarity about where your organization is going, how it will get there, and what each person needs to do next. The result? Your board and staff become more aligned and effective and they produce more tangible results faster, attracting the attention of funders and other supporters.
- Through The Org Compass, your team will clarify:
- Core values—principles that define your culture and guide every decision
- Core focus—your mission, niche, and who you serve
- Long-term destination—where you are going; orients everything else
- 3-year milestones—concrete goals and metrics to keep you on track
- 1-year plan—the specific outcomes your organization will achieve this year

- The process is delivered virtually or in-person, and your NaturePlan coach will equip your team with the tools and training to keep the plan alive long after the engagement ends.
